Status Common. Red forewing tip and broad red band on abdomen. Sallow carr, swamp, osier or withy beds, riverbanks, flooded pits and ponds. Other damp marshy areas.
Can often be found by day, without the use of a lure, feeding at flowers.

Like many of the clearwings, was formerly considered scarce, but due to the increased availability of pheromone lures is apparently much more common and widespread than previously thought.
