Status Local. Birch woodland. Larvae create a blotch mine in leaves of foodplant, March - May. Vacated mines cannot be identified.
Leaf-mine: Mine starting at the leaf edge, accumulation of frass showing where the mine has started. The larvae occur singly and are dark grey and easily seen.
Very similar to E. semipurpurella. Genitalia dissection is required to separate E. sangii, E. semipurpurella, Paracrania chrysolepidella, E. unimaculella and E. cicatricella.
