Norfolk status Local. Double or triple-brooded. Males have pale grey forewings, females are white.
Can be confused with the similar pine feeding species Ocnerostoma piniariella. O. friesei initially has an earlier flight time, and again in the Autumn. The similar O. piniariella flies between the first two broods of O. friesei. Differences in antennae can also aid identification, Ocnerostoma friesei: grey. O. piniariella: ringed white and pale grey (male) and white (female)
The larvae, not distinguishable from O. piniariella, mine the needles of the foodplant from December to March, June to July and sometimes September.
