Norfolk status Local. Mainly a westerly distribution in England and Wales, where it is local in damp, shady woodland.
Adult moths are day-flying and similar to the other fern feeding Psychoid, P. filicivora but show a violet tinge and lack the white tornal spot. The larval feeding signs are also similar but P. verhuella larva can be distinguished by dark head and black anal plate.
New for Norfolk in 2014 when several specimens where collected and bred from Phyllitis scolopendrium (Hart's-tongue Fern) in a Heacham garden. (P. Cobb, collected 10/04/14, emerged 13/05/14)
