Norfolk status New to Norfolk and UK in September 2024
Specimen trapped at Ormesby St. Margaret, confirmed as new to the UK (K. Brett, 22/09/24 Gen. Det. Female. D. Appleton)
European species thought to have arrived during a period of high migrant activity on easterly winds during September 2024.
Part of a genus that includes three resident species occurring in Britain. The small size and peppered appearance should aid identification, however reference to the genitalic structure is required for confirmation.
The non-British Phycitodes bentinckella (Pierce, 1937) was formerly treated as a subspecies of lacteella, now raised to species level (Leraut 2014). Pierce & Metcalfe in their 1938 publication "The Genitalia of the British Pyrales with the Deltoids and Plumes" include the then newly described and named Homoesoma bentinkella, although not considered to be a British species.
