Norfolk status
Flies during the day and at night.
Often confused with Pyrausta aurata. Arrangement of the postmedian markings on the forewing can form a continuous broad band, but is often broken into three.
The hindwing always has one or two yellow spots or short, broad streaks.

It is possible that P. purpuralis is being over recorded in Norfolk.
