Norfolk status Deciduous woodland. One of several very similar moths which can be difficult to separate, best identified by means of genitalia dissection. In general a little larger than S. ambigualis, with heavier markings, greyer in colour, and stongly chequred fringe.
Mainly unconfirmed records up to 2009. Confirmed records from East Winch Common and Tyrrel's Wood in 2009 and Boughton Fen, Ashwellthorpe Wood and Dersingham in 2010. Many more records from 2010 onwards, confirmed via genitalia dissection which shows the species is now well established in Norfolk.
