Damp woodland clearings, flying in sunshine, in May and June.
Dark purple / bronze forewing with several whitish markings.

Similar to Lampronia capitella but that species is larger with costal and tornal spots opposite each other. I. praelatella is smaller and the spots are alternate. This method of separation can be inconclusive. I. praelatella usually shows a white basal dot and white terminal cilia. Separation by head colour seems unreliable as both capitella and praelatella show similar colour.
