Many variations, though one of the more distinctive is f. decorana, which shows an orange area over the mid-part of the forewing.
Woodland, parks and gardens, boggy heaths and banks of rivers and streams where old clumps of sallow grow.

Please note the grey form of Epinotia nisella could be E. cinereana, and would require examination of the genitalia for separation.
