Various open habitats including grassland, heathland, fens, scrub, gardens and open woodland.
Variable species, some examples of which can resemble other Acronicta species. The small curved white mark on the rear edge of each forewing. (resembling two small central white teeth when viewed at rest from above) are characteristic.Recorded in 66 (89%) of 74 10k Squares.
