Hedgerows or sunny woodland edges with abundant Barberry.
It is now believed to be limited to a few small sites, mainly in Wiltshire, with colonies also in Gloucestershire, Dorset and introduced colonies elsewhere. A colony has also recently been discovered in Oxfordshire.

S41 - Priority Species in UK Biodiversity Action Plan. Fully protected under Schedule 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981).
