Distinguished from similar species by its ochreous-white head and palps.
Locally distributed, and rather scarce species mainly recorded in southern and eastern England, occupying Woodland, heathland, fens and bogs.
Recorded in west Norfolk in boggy, heathland locations such as Dersingham Bog, Roydon Common and the Ken Hill estate as well as Swanton Novers, Foxley and the Broads.
First recorded by E.A. Atmore around the Lynn area between 1883 and 1889 where he notes in 1899 "Greatly increased in numbers over previous two years".
Larva feeds within catkins of Birch, Alder and Goat Willow.Recorded in 34 (46%) of 74 10k Squares.
