Norfolk status Widespread in woodland, scrub, hedgerows, fens, heathland, gardens and parks.
Very similar to Svensson's Copper Underwing. Copper Underwing tends to be brighter and more contrasting with bolder chequering on the abdomen. The underside of the hindwing is considered the most reliable distinguishing feature, the orange suffusion stops at the black cross-line on the hindwing.
