Similar, but less common and not as frequently recorded as Chestnut (C. vaccinii).
Overwinters as an adult, woodland and open habitats, gardens

Usually dark chestnut or chocolate brown and shiny in appearance. Distinguished from Chestnut by the pointed or sharp wing tip (apex) and straighter outer edge (termen) of the forewing.
The differences are slight and care is needed.
