A fairly distinctive large and well-marked Pug.
There are three British subspecies of Eupithecia intricata.
Ssp. arceuthata named Freyer's Pug is the only one found in Norfolk. Edinburgh Pug (ssp. millieraria) occurs in northern England and Scotland, and Mere's Pug (ssp. hibernica), occurring only in the Burren region of western Ireland.
Adults Fly from dusk onwards and come to light in May and June. The larvae of the common race, arceuthata (Freyer's Pug), feed on Common Juniper and various species of cypresses and false cypresses, exotic junipers and other conifers introduced to gardens and parks.
