Fairly common and widespread on chalk downland and limestone hills in the south of England and south Wales.

C. G. Barrett (Trans. N&NNS 1874) "The occurence of isolated specimens in this district is very curios. It seems to indicate either that the species has been common upon the chalk of the Eastern Counties and is gradually dying out, or that it is gradually effecting a settlement in the district".
