C. J. Brooks
Cecil Joslin Brooks 1875 - 1953. Working in Borneo and Sumatra, he collected butterflies, moths and ferns in his spare time. During trips to Java, Celebes and Ambon he discovered many species new to science. He was later appointed an associate to the Department of Entomology at the BMNH. His collections are deposited in the BMNH and Norwich Castle Museum.
E. Smith
E. Smith The Eric R. Smith collection contains specimens dated in the early 1900s, collected by E. Smith, R. S. Smith, A. Smith and a few specimens from the P. B. Mason collection and E. A. Atmore, King's Lynn, 1906. Many specimens are from West Norfolk, and in particular Denver, Shouldham Thorpe, Downham Market, Wormegay and Stoke Ferry. Other East Anglian localities include Yarmouth, Horning, Barton, Norwich, Wicken Fen, Monk's Wood, Hunts and Cambs. (Transferred from a 30 drawer cabinet to the Norwich Castle Museum, the contents of two drawers (Hawk-moths) had been previously sold).
E. J. Singleton Smith
Edward John Singleton Smith was born in Surrey in 1860 and educated at Durham University. He moved to Lowestoft in 1895 where he set up a school. From his earliest years he was a keen Lepidopterist, "I carried a net that was taller than myself when i was eight". He died in 1926, some of his collection remains intact at the Castle Museum.
