Widespread.
Open country and urban areas, frequenting mossy walls and old thatch.

One of three similar dark Bryotropha, the speckled forewing, yellow scales and tornal patches are distinctive features.

This species and B. umbrosella also have a completely pale coastal form. (Gen. Det. Required)
