Norfolk status
Extremely rare species.
Occurs in Breckland on poor scantily covered grassland on calcareous soils. Diurnal flying especially towards dusk.

Similar to Coleophora lixella, but shows a long brown basal tuft on brown/white fully ringed antennae.

Discovered in the UK near Merton, Norfolk in 1899 where it was recorded sparingly in the area until 1914, then went unrecorded for 50 years!

For 10 years, up until 2011, a confidential Butterfly Conservation larval survey by Gerry Haggett, monitored the population annually in the Norfolk and Suffolk Brecks.
Caterpillars were originally found at just two sites, and adults at a third. However, the research and survey work discovered strong populations at a number of smaller sites.

Recorded regularly at known Breckland sites.
